Our story
Welcome to the Association of Computer Science and Engineering Students (ACSES)!
We are a dynamic community of students passionate about exploring the exciting intersections of computer science and engineering. Since our establishment, we have been committed to fostering innovation, collaboration, and excellence in education and research.
Establishment of Association of Computer Science and Engineering Students (ACSES)
Upon assumption of office, a request was put before the VC through the Dean for an association to be established for the students in the Department. The Students had put together a constitution to regulate their affairs but had had no success in establishing same. The Department supported their quest to have an association of their own and the name Association of Computer Science and Engineering Students (ACSES) was approved. An interim President was appointed for the Association for the period 23RD August, 2016 to 21ST April, 2017.
The Interim President worked with the following for the stated period:
L Faculty of Engineering Representative on SRC:
II. Representative of CE 1:
Ili. Representative of CE II; and Representative of CE 3
The Department gave them the following terms of reference;
i. To organise the inauguration of the association
i. To organise the First ACSES Week;
Iii. To organise elections based on ACSES Constitution;
Iv. To tender accounts and hand over to the duly elected officers; and
v. To make recommendations on any other matters incidental to ACSES
In the 2022/2023 academic year, our department witnessed a transformative expansion as our family grew to include our esteemed colleagues from the cybersecurity and information systems disciplines. This momentous occasion not only marked a historic milestone but also ushered in a significant increase in the membership of our Departmental Association, under the exemplary
leadership of Former President Kennedy Akogo.
However, despite our burgeoning numbers and collective enthusiasm, ACSES faced a challenge in securing recognition as a departmental association capable of representing itself on the legislative assembly of the student representative council. It was during this critical period that His Excellency Emmanuel Gyan Ansah, in the 2023/2024 academic year, along with his dedicated executives, stepped forward as agents of change. With visionary zeal and unwavering determination, they embarked on a mission to redefine the perception and stature of our Departmental Association.
Through strategic branding initiatives and a steadfast commitment to excellence, they succeeded in propelling ACSES into the spotlight, earning the distinction of becoming the first administration to secure a seat on the legislative assembly. Since then, the Departmental Association has experienced a remarkable surge in initiatives, each contributing to the dynamic growth and development of our department. From groundbreaking research endeavours to impactful community outreach programs, ACSES has emerged as a driving force behind our collective progress and success. As we continue to forge ahead into the future, guided by the enduring values of unity and innovation, the legacy of ACSES remains a beacon of inspiration for generations to come.
